Servers, Storage and Backups: INL wishes to use a virtualization solution to consolidate workloads onto fewer physical servers, while not sacrificing performance and ability to adapt to ever changing IT environments. The solution must include virtualization tools that allow an optimized use of hardware and an improved level of IT reliability, ensuring that application requirements and expected performance levels are always met. In order to achieve scalability, redundancy and efficiency and to accommodate system virtualization, server blade architecture should be used. However, alternative solutions regarding interconnection of servers and storage can be proposed, as long as functionality and performance requirements equivalent to the features detailed below are met. INL is looking to use a Storage Area Network (SAN) with high availability and disaster recovery features, data sharing, efficient and reliable backup and restoration functions, as well as centralized administration and remote support. The network storage system should serve as data repository for all blade server systems. It is required that blade server systems can perform boot from SAN in addition to having all application data on the SAN. The SAN system should allow for mixed drive types (FC, SATA or SAS), in order to accommodate both tier one and two of storage on the same enclosure.

Identity and Access Management: INL Identity and Access Management (IAM) must be a scalable solution that identifies and manages the data used in an information system to authenticate users and grant or deny access rights to data and system resources, while providing appropriate access to enterprise resources. The IAM solution should combine Identity Management and Access Control services to provide centralized authentication, policy-based authorizations, and auditing with rich identity administration functionality such as delegated administration and workflows. The proposed Identity and Access Management solution must be standards-based, and it should be compatible with complex, heterogeneous environments. It must be installed in INL’s server solution.

Tape Backup (Disaster Recovery):INL users will use imaging, multimedia and other emerging data-intensive applications. As such, INL wishes to implement a cost-effective backup tape storage solution, allowing backup of large volumes of data. The solution must perform partial and complete backups. The solution should scale easily, allow monitoring, have low power consumption and reduced cooling requirements. Also, the solution should include a software to be installed on the users computers that automatically backups the contents of a particular folder. The solution should be compatible with Linux, Mac and Windows.
